15 years Facebook: Why ECCO Switzerland stays – with conviction

To stay or not to stay, that is the question. After 15 years, we still see opportunities on Facebook. For us, the platform remains a tool with potential: for real exchange and targeted communication for sustainable relationships – for real relations, that is. We stay on Facebook not because we have to, but because it makes sense and, in the best case, creates value.

Facebook has been part of our communications strategy for 15 years. From the beginning, Facebook has helped us to understand, advise on and live social media (for those very reasons we have followed the platform’s development in numbers since 2008).

1. Shape developments instead of chasing after them
We have also supported a large number of customers, from medium-sized companies to federal agencies and administrations to large corporations. Instead of waiting for trends, we use platforms to experience and shape developments. We see new formats such as reels or the evolution of communities as opportunities for our understanding of social media and use them wherever it makes sense.

2. Quality over quantity
More communication does not equal better communication. Our motto: reduction instead of expansion. We always strive to develop content with the greatest possible utility for our community, rather than low-quality output. Fewer posts, but more relevance and substance – that’s the recipe we want to cook by – on all channels, not just on Facebook.

3. Build and maintain a community
Interesting to know: in the early days our bernetblog sought to engage in a dialogue with our community. But it remained and developed into a specialized online magazine and a source of knowledge. Dialogue and community then emerged thanks to platforms like Twitter (RIP) and, of course, Facebook – authentic relationships with a strong impact on offline life. Whether customers, partners or interested parties – the platforms allow us to create dialogue and sustainable connections. Likes and follower numbers are secondary; the exchange is what matters.
Our conclusion: whether we do or do not love a platform, “evil” is certainly not the right word to describe it. Any objections? Therefore, after 15 years, we still see Facebook as a smart addition to our communication – with a focus on quality, dialogue and efficiency.
